Nissan Juke (F15) with Xtronic CVT (Jatco JF016E / RE0F10D): Nissan has extended the CVT warranty and issued a service bulletin for judder and transmission codes (US market)

For the US market, Nissan extended the CVT warranty of the 2013-2017 Juke (F15) to 84 months / 84,000 miles in May 2020 and in December 2020 issued bulletin NTB20-091 / AT20-007 for the 2015-2017 Juke with the RE0F10D transmission when codes such as P0776, P2813, P0841 or P17F0 are stored. The repair is a control valve and, if the belt slips, a sub-assembly. No European recall or warranty extension was found, and the US extension does not apply to EU cars.

Dossier revision 1 · data updated 2026-10-13 · canon release 2026.10.1

Read this firstEach entry describes a known weak point of a model, engine or gearbox, based on published sources. It is not a statement about any individual car and not a diagnosis. An entry does not mean that a given car has the defect; the absence of an entry does not mean that a car is sound. Prevalence figures are estimates for the stated population and method, with their biases, and cannot be applied to a single car. The data is provided as is, without warranty (CC-BY-4.0, section 5); it is not a certified, mechanical or legal inspection. Naming a manufacturer or its product is not an assessment of that manufacturer; source links show where each fact comes from. To report an error, open an issue at github.com/ElgardeCom/elgarde or write to support@elgarde.com. We correct mistakes.

Which cars this covers

Only the Nissan Juke (F15) with the Xtronic CVT. The documented programmes are US-only: the warranty extension covers the 2013-2017 model years and bulletin NTB20-091 the 2015-2017 Juke with the RE0F10D (not NISMO RS). The US warranty extension does not apply to EU cars, and no European recall or extension was found. Manual-gearbox Jukes and the 1.5 dCi (manual only) are not concerned. The JF017E chain CVT is not fitted to the Juke.

Models in scope
Nissan Juke
Conditions on top of the model
  • All of these must hold:
    • Gearbox: type cvt
    • Production date: from January 2010

How to check whether a particular car is affected

Elgarde reads the conditions above and gives one of three answers for a car:

  • Applies: every condition is confirmed for the car.
  • Possible: at least one condition cannot be confirmed yet. The entry stays on the checklist, with a note on what to find out.
  • Not applicable: a condition is clearly not met (for example a manual gearbox on a DSG entry). The entry is left off the checklist.

What to look for, and where

  • Model: one of the models listed above
The model name as on the registration document, e.g. Golf, 208, 320d.
  • Gearbox type
Manual or automatic? On VW group cars a dual-clutch gearbox usually shows 'DSG' or 'S tronic' on or near the gear lever.
  • Gearbox code: type cvt
Stamped on the gearbox housing and returned by a dealer VIN query; on VW group cars also printed on the vehicle data sticker.
  • Production month: from January 2010
The month the car was built (on the VIN plate or in the registration papers). It only matters when the year alone does not settle it.

When in doubt, treat the car as possible: asking one question too many costs less than missing a defect.

How the fault arises, as reported

Nissan's bulletin for the RE0F10D describes stored codes (P0776, P2813, P0841, P17F0, P17F1, P1715) and a repair flow that checks for push-belt slippage and replaces the control valve, with a sub-assembly replacement where the belt slips and TCM reprogramming where needed. The root cause is not stated in the documents used here. The 2020 warranty extension covers the CVT assembly, valve body, torque converter and cooler kit.

Reported symptoms

Early signs

  • Judder or shudder when pulling away or under light throttle

Later signs

  • Stored CVT codes such as P0776, P2813, P0841, P17F0 or P1715

What to check when inspecting a car

  • Documents and records. Confirm the car has the Xtronic CVT and check the service history for CVT fluid changes and any transmission work.Red flag: No record of CVT fluid changes or of transmission repairs.
  • Diagnostic read-out. Read stored and pending codes from the transmission control unit, looking for P0776, P2813, P0841, P17F0, P17F1 and P1715.
Tools: obd2 scannerRed flag: Any of these codes stored.
  • Test drive. Test drive from standstill and at light throttle, warm and cold, and watch for judder or hesitation.Red flag: Judder or hesitation.

Repair and cost

Usual remedy
Replacement of the control valve; if the push belt slips, replacement of the sub-assembly as well; TCM reprogramming where needed (Nissan bulletin NTB20-091).
No published repair cost is recorded in this dossier.

How common is it?

No reliable figure

No reliable figure for how many cars are affected is recorded for this entry. This is stated on purpose: a missing number is not a low number.

No failure rate for the Juke CVT has been published. Warranty eligibility and lawsuit allegations are not failure rates. Sources: [1], [2]
